Hey everyone!

As the weather starts to warm up a bit, figured I'd send this out to get
everyone amped up for the season. One of my goals this season, will be to
get more jumpers involved in 4-way Formation Skydiving (FS)!

I will be organizing 4-way loads for anyone that's interested, no matter
your experience level. I would love to get our newer A-licensed jumpers
involved!

*What is Formation Skydiving?*

>From the wikipedia page: There are two kinds of formations, called randoms
and blocks. The randoms are singular formations with full separation of all
grips both before and after building the formation. The blocks are double
formations with a special designated movement pattern in between, called an
inter. The start formation may, or may not be similar to the ending
formation. The inters are differently performed.

The goal of FS is to complete as many of the blocks and randoms as possible
before the skydive is over (or 35 seconds competitively once you leave the
plane). Jumps are usually comprised of 4 to 6 point sequences of
formations, depending on skill level. Each random is 1 point, each block is
2 points.

For a newer jumper, the randoms are perfect for getting introduced to
formations! You can see the visual list of randoms here:

As you get comfortable with randoms, you can progress to introducing blocks
(which seem rather intimidating at first). Here's a simplified list of the
blocks & randoms in one pdf:
http://www.axisflightschool.com/pdf/DivePool_PDF_FS4.pdf, or alternatively
http://www.rhythmskydiving.com/files/1213/9205/8655/StarterBlock_StandardStyle_v1Jan14.pdf
will
show the transitions from the "top" of a block expanded out.

Now, I'm nowhere, by any means, an expert in this. This is a learning
experience for me, but I want to pull as many newer jumpers and experienced
jumpers into this as I can. When we did State Games last year, there seemed
to be a lot of confusion as to how the dive works, and how best to execute
the formations. I definitely want to help fix this, so that any jumper
interested in doing state games again this year have a better understanding
of formation skydiving.

Let me know if you are interested, or if you have any questions! See you at
the drop zone :)

Also, for our newer licensed members that are possibly interested, check
out the top two videos here about the neutral belly position, and advanced
belly turns: http://www.axisflightschool.com/_coaching_FoF.html<http://www.axisflightschool.com/_coaching_FoF.html.>

There's quite a few awesome videos on this page, check them all out when
you can!
