> 2015 Safety Day Around the Corner!
>
> Safety Day is less than a month away, scheduled for March 14 at most DZs! It's time to start preparing so you can make your event a great season opener for everyone who attends. Safety and Training Advisors are charged with making sure the drop zone hosts an event. So, check with your S&TA to see how you can help make the arrangements. USPA provides supporting presentations and handouts, all of which are available for download from the Safety Day webpage <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PIpgpICtXuD_PL4pbNCJva_8N6uxObGnaX48xB5f4xzoEpON1rpz0NPBZ-t6txLaw8oARhP44FOqz8bmUyI7MrEQ4xirXwD720VY1jcdvxN4AjBKL76shv2MH4w0I_9hMuepe5KLmHtjI9Gx8WymBFDWLKzunivWKo0xAm8hDwc=&c=3EH5-hCNjXUH65fIkJhQeHPDhKAAPJgEgivu5epZtUFlwkIuxlAgkA==&ch=fT_4pDqa9V0btJrPk1HATAOYkYyAiN2pMz2jEJ9NBMKbwZp8ei5xsA==>. Drop zones can order T-shirts through Jumper Sportswear for just $4.25 each (add $2 for XXL) by contacting Lisa Elledge at (888) USA-LOGO or lisa at uslogo.net <mailto:lisa at uslogo.net>. Drop zone logos can be added to the sleeve for an additional $1.25 per shirt on orders of 12 or more.
>
> With S&TA help, each DZ should also select a recipient for the Chesley H. Judy Safety Award, which is presented each year to a local jumper who promoted safe skydiving in the previous year. Send the name of the recipient, name of the drop zone and the mailing address to safety at uspa.org <mailto:safety at uspa.org> by February 27, and USPA will send free of charge a certificate suitable for framing.
>
> Before March 23, you can send a short write-up about your event for inclusion in Parachutist magazine. Include any interesting or innovative ideas along with photos of your event. Simply use the online submission form that will soon be available on the Safety Day webpage <http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001PIpgpICtXuD_PL4pbNCJva_8N6uxObGnaX48xB5f4xzoEpON1rpz0NPBZ-t6txLaw8oARhP44FOqz8bmUyI7MrEQ4xirXwD720VY1jcdvxN4AjBKL76shv2MH4w0I_9hMuepe5KLmHtjI9Gx8WymBFDWLKzunivWKo0xAm8hDwc=&c=3EH5-hCNjXUH65fIkJhQeHPDhKAAPJgEgivu5epZtUFlwkIuxlAgkA==&ch=fT_4pDqa9V0btJrPk1HATAOYkYyAiN2pMz2jEJ9NBMKbwZp8ei5xsA==>.

> Eustace and StratEx Nominated for Collier Trophy!
>
> Following last October's world-record-breaking leap from 135,897 feet, Alan Eustace and the StratEx Team are among this year's nominees for the National Aeronautic Association's prestigious Collier Trophy.
>
> For 103 years the Robert J. Collier Trophy has been the benchmark of aviation and aerospace achievement. The NAA awards the trophy annually "... for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America." Previous projects, programs, individuals and accomplishments to earn the recognition include the crews of Apollo 11 and Apollo 8, Howard Hughes, the B-52, the Polaris Missile, the Surveyor Moon Landing Program and the Boeing 747.
>
> Eustace, a longtime USPA member and a senior vice president at Google, teamed with Paragon Space Development Corporation for the StratEx Project. The successful jump on October 24, 2014, over Roswell, New Mexico, broke multiple world records: exit altitude above sea level-41,422 meters (135,897 feet MSL); vertical speed with a stabilizing drogue-1,320 km/hour (821 mph, Mach 1.22); and distance of fall with a stabilizing drogue: 37,623 meters (123,434 feet).
>
> This year's additional nominees are the Embraer Legacy 500, the F-16 Automatic Ground Collision Avoidance Team, the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee, the Gulfstream G650, the Orion Exploration Flight Test-1 and the Orion UAS Team. The NAA's selection committee, which includes nearly 30 aviation and aerospace industry leaders, will select this year's winner on March 11, and the NAA will announce the winner that evening at its Spring Awards Dinner in Arlington, Virginia. The formal presentation will take place at the Collier Dinner at a later date. > 65th IPC Meeting Concludes
> USPA's Delegate Kirk Verner and Alternate Delegate Jim Hayhurst recently returned from Varshets, Bulgaria, and the 65th International Parachuting Commission Meeting. Here are some highlights of the meeting:
>
> The IPC shifted the Indoor Skydiving World Championships to odd years (2015, 2017) so as not to conflict with the outdoor Skydiving World Championships.
> The IPC awarded the 1st World Parachuting Championships of Indoor Skydiving to the Prague tunnel in the Czech Republic.
> Events will include dynamic 2- and 4-way competition
> October 26-29, 2015, dates to be revised so as to not conflict with 2015 USPA Nationals
> Wingsuit flying was approved as a new Fédération Aéronautique Internationale competition discipline. Events include Performance Flying and Acrobatic (2-way) Flying.
> The 1st World Cup of Wingsuit Performance Flying was awarded to Netheravon, U.K., May 25-29, 2015. Each nation may send up to 12 competitors.
> The IPC declined to adopt mixed formation skydiving 2-way as a new vertical formation skydiving event.
> The World Air Games are on track for December 1-12, 2015, in Dubai. Parachuting dominates the air games with 442 of 712 entrants. The event is essentially a "by invitation" Mondial, based on the 2014 WPC results.
> Farnham, Canada, was awarded the 6th FAI World Parachuting Championships of Canopy Piloting, August 21-26, 2016.
