This is a really timely topic with our "Redemption Boogie" a day away.
I'd like to challenge everyone to put an extra measure of effort into being safe this week. Get a gear check, give a gear check. Pack safe, fly safe, look out for yourself and your brothers/sisters in the sky.
See ya at Plattsmouth !

Introducing USPA's Make-a-Save Campaign!
[http://files.ctctcdn.com/844e7ca7001/28992e37-4b3a-4ce4-9a16-3178f911f233.jpg]Simple gear checks could have prevented as many as 20 skydiving fatalities in the U.S. since 1999, along with countless other non-fatal accidents and injuries. And yet, these days, gear checks have become one of the most overlooked safety precautions in our sport.
To help remedy this situation, USPA is introducing its new Make-a-Save campaign. The goal is to remind and reinforce to all skydivers the importance of gear checks on every skydive. We're now asking jumpers of all levels to redouble their efforts to check their own and each other's gear before every jump.
Whether it's a misrouted chest strap, a poorly stowed pilot chute or a loose closing loop, catching these mistakes before they turn into accidents can save our own and our friends' lives. USPA is encouraging all skydivers to not only keep an eye out for gear problems, but to send stories, photos and videos of gear saves to USPA to share with all members. Starting next week, each Monday we'll share these stories and photos on social media as part of Make-a-Save Monday, reminding everyone of the necessity to maintain gear vigilance on every jump, regardless of experience level.
Additional ways jumpers can make saves include:
* Hosting drop zone mini-seminars related to equipment or safety issues
* Mentoring newer jumpers to provide guidance for safer camera use, canopy choices, etc.
* Donating to the U.S. Skydiving Safety Foundation
The Make-a-Save campaign will also include information, tips and reminders about gear checks, as well as common equipment errors, in our print and online publications. Every one of our members can do their part to make this effort a success, in turn making the sport safer for everyone. Nothing is worse than an accident that could have been easily prevented. And nothing is better than knowing you saved the life of a friend by preventing that accident.
If you'd like to contribute your or a friend's gear save to Make-a-Save Monday, send your stories, photos and video to safety at uspa.org<mailto:safety at uspa.org>.
